80s MUSIC BANDS AND THEIR VIDEOS FILMED IN LONDON
If you are in your 40s or 50s you may be familiar with the videos below, having maybe spent your teenage years glued to MTV or Top of the Pops. I’m pretty sure even younger folks may have watched these videos at least once.
The 80s gave the history of music some unforgettable hits which came packaged with great video clips, some of them shot in London: like “West End Girls” by Pet Shop Boys, one of the best music video ever filmed in London, symbol of the 80s and the London 80s Vibe. Or like the upbeat “Come On Eileen” by “Dexys Midnight Runners”, filmed just outside the former Vi’s Store in Kennington.
Enjoy a rooftop view of the City of London along with the musical notes of “Owner of a Lonely Heart” by Yes, or sing along to “Panic” by the Smiths, nostalgically taking in a bit of the London alternative scene of those years.
You don’t remember Milli Vanilli, right? Nobody would probably blame you…. Well, to be honest, they were quite “well known” at that time, not only because this German group was a pop sensation among teenagers in the late 80s but also because they weren’t even the ones who sang on their major hit “Girl You know it’s true” … Doubts were first raised when they were interviewed for MTV, revealing their poor English-speaking skills, and this started to stir doubts among those present as to whether they had actually sung on their records where, on the contrary, they sported spotless English pronunciations…miracles do happen sometimes but…
To cut a long story short, their success turned to infamy when their Grammy award was withdrawn after Milli Vanilli and their agent Sergio Vendero confessed that the alleged singers, Morvan and Pilatus, did not actually sing any of the vocals heard on the record.
Here we go, let’s watch some of the best music videos by 80s bands filmed in London…and let’s conclude with the most “infamous” one…
